Morton R. “Mort” Gentz

Morton R. “Mort” Gentz, 95, Appleton, formerly of Gillett, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at home.  His family was at his side.

 

Mort was born November 30, 1923 to the late Julius and Kathryn (Weidner) Gentz at Bowler, WI.  He graduated from Bowler High School in 1941.  On June 14th, 1944, he married the love of his life Lorraine Hoefs at Zion Lutheran Church in Zachow, WI.  He was a proud WWII Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Air Force as an aerial front nose gunner on B-24 Bombers in the Pacific Theater of War.

 

Following his military service, he and Lorraine worked for Red Owl Stores.  They owned and operated Gentz’s Flowers and Greenhouses in Gillett retiring in 1978.  They went on to spend 22 years at Finnegan Lake, building a home and caring for flowers, trees and multiple vegetable gardens.

 

In 2000, they moved to apartment living.  Mort was active in volunteering for Boy Scouts, Northern Gardeners, Revitalize Gillett, Oconto County Historical Society and was a paid-up life member of Krause-Simpson American Legion Post #300.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving on council and various committees of the church.  He was a co-chair for the church’s 100th anniversary celebration.  Mort and Lorraine were honored as Grand Marshalls for the 2005 Fourth of July parade.

 

He is survived by his wife Lorraine of Appleton; son Michael (Cindy) Gentz of Green Bay and daughter Wendy (Kurt) Redlin of Appleton and Alabama.  He also leaves his grandchildren: Monica Fischer of Gillett; Ai (Kyoto) Saito of Florida and Japan; Trisha Snow of Oshkosh; Ori-Anna (Mark) Ramsey of West Bend and Brandon Redlin of Neenah.  Mort is further survived by his nieces Judy (Robert) Kroening, Leopolis; Marilyn (Todd) Hanson, Shawano; Sally (Todd) Popp, Appleton as well as numerous other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister Leila (Robert) Doran, brother Tony (Tana) Gentz, brother-in-law Maynard (Bernice) Hoefs and beloved grandson Ryan Fischer.

 

Memorial visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 9 to 11 AM at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (101 W. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124). A memorial service will follow at 11 AM.  Final rest will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Zachow.

Cheryl Lynn “Sherry” Gallagher

Cheryl Lynn “Sherry” Gallagher, age 63, Shawano, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 after a long period of declining health.

 

She was born in Shawano, WI on July 29, 1955, a twin daughter of Albert and Frances (Wetzel) Gallagher.  Sherry attended local schools and was a 1973 graduate of Gillett, High School.  In earlier years, Sherry held various jobs in the Appleton area.  She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved teddy bears.  She sang for many years with her sister at local events and weddings and had been active with her high school choir.  Sherry had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family, friends and her care givers.  She will be sadly missed.

 

Sherry is survived by her sisters: Pat Gallagher of Mountain, Judie Temple of Suring and Shelly (Chuck Stolte) Mueller of Seymour.  She also leaves nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Memorial Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM at LEGACY FUNERAL CHAPELS (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124.  A memorial service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating.  Final rest will be private.

 

The family thanks the staff of Atrium Post Acute Care at Evergreen of Shawano, ThedaCare as well as ThedaCare Home Hospice for their kind and gentle care of Sherry.

Cora M. (Fandrey) Schultz, 92, Gillett, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

 

She was born in Town of Hutchins, WI on June 19, 1926, a daughter of the late William R. and Emma (Kielman) Fandrey.  Cora married Marvin C. Schultz on September 22, 1951 at St. Paulus Church in the Town of Almon and together they raised one daughter, Jane.

 

The family made their home in Gillett and Cora worked at the Canning Factory during the summer for many years.  She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in many ministries including the Ladies Aide and the church’s annual bazaar. Cora loved flower gardening and looked forward to planting flowers each year.

 

Cora faithfully read her prayer books.  She loved listening to “her polkas” and will fondly be remembered for riding her bicycle around town for many years.  A spiritual and loving woman, an amazing mother and grandmother, Cora’s greatest joy was her family and spending time with loved ones.  She will be sadly missed.

 

Cora leaves her daughter, Jane (Randy) Bigelow, her grandchildren: Debbie Bigelow (Nate) and Robert Bigelow; her great-grandchildren: Kyle Mikula (Brandi), Breanna Mikula (Dylan), Ayden, Leah and Fisher and her great-great-grandchild, Emerson.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Cora was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Marvin on March 8, 1993, her siblings: Ada (Al) Umland, Emmaline (Ed) Kuehn, Derwin (Helen), Norman (Caroline), Donald (Bernice) and an infant brother Arnold Fandrey.

 

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 4 to 7 PM at LEGACY FUNERAL CHAPELS (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124).  Visitation continues Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 2 to 3:45 PM at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (101 W. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124).  A funeral service will follow at 4 PM with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating.  Burial will be in Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery.

Dennis Glynn Schroeder

Dennis Glynn Schroeder, 84, Rockford, IL, formerly Gillett, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Dennis was born in Underhill on July 22, 1934, a son of the late Glynn W. and Ruth (Vorpahl) Schroeder.   He attended area schools, and moved to Rockford, IL as a young man before being drafted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Dennis proudly served for two years before receiving an honorable discharge.

After his military service, Dennis returned to Rockford where he enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an operating engineer for Sjostrom & Sons Construction.  Dennis was very gifted when it came to fixing things and understanding how they worked.  He was a member of Operating Engineers, Local #150 union for over 50 years.

Following his father’s passing, Dennis took over his families homestead in Underhill.  He was an avid collector of cars, tractors and other farm equipment and made regular trips and visits back home throughout his lifetime.

Dennis was a lifelong Lutheran attending church at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rockford and Christ Lutheran Church when he came back home.  He was extremely social and was happy to visit those he knew in nursing homes.  Dennis was active in German Club and Lombardi Club.  He attended Polish Fest, Beckman Sawmill Days and was involved with the Midway Village Civil War Reenactment.  Dennis attended the Iola Car Show each year and enjoyed going to flea markets.  He loved polka music and was an excellent polka dancer and was also a great cook.  He was always happy to share his talents with friends and family.  He will be sadly missed.

Dennis is survived by his siblings: Lenore M. Robertson of Costa Mesa, CA, Iris D. Schroeder of Rockford, IL, Judith M. Pecore of Oshkosh and Stephen R. (Debbie) Schroeder.  He also leaves his dear friends, whom he regarded as family, Merrill (Sheila) Mihm of Rockford and their children: CJ (Sarah) Shelley (Drew) and Matthew.  Dennis is further survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Diana Schroeder; his brother, PFC Maynard R. Schroeder and his sister Holly Tucker.

Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124).  Visitation continues Monday, March 25, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH-HINTZ (6905 Red Banks Road, Gillett, WI 54124).  A funeral service will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Michael Paholke officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Fannie A. Mullett

Fannie A. (Miller) Mullett, age 76 years 6 months 3 days, Bonduel, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at home.

 

Fannie was born in Buchanan County, Iowa on August 31, 1942 to Ammon and Lydia (Borntrager) Miller.  She was united in marriage to Ora Mullett on September 29, 1966 in Buchanan County, Iowa.  They lived in matrimony for 27years, 8 months and 22 days before Ora’s passing on June 20, 1994.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

 

Fannie leaves behind two sons and three daughters: Melvin (Edna), Gillett, WI, Lydia (Mervin), Glenwood City, WI, Clara (Alvin), Bonduel, WI, Enos (Suzanna), Gillett, WI and Lori (LeRoy) Bonduel, WI.  She also leaves 28 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and 7 brothers.

 

Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ora, twin sons, a grandson, two great-grandchildren and a sister.

 

Visitation at the LeRoy Schrock Residence (N4313 County Road T, Bonduel, WI) Monday, March 4, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM and Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 1 to 8 PM.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 9 AM with Dan Miller officiating.  Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery.
