Sandra Jean Hanson

Sandra Jean Hanson, age 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her family at her side on January 2, 2021.  She was born September 29, 1944, to Adolph & Anna (Arndt) Paholke, in Underhill, WI. She was one of 9 children.  

Sandy is survived by husband, Jim Hanson, of 57 years. They were married May 4, 1963 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz. She has two daughters, Melanie (Matt) Rice and Kris (David) Erickson, 5 grandchildren Amelia & Emerson Rice, and Jimmy, Libby, and Sam Erickson.  She is further survived by siblings Allen Paholke, Gillett, Elaine (Claire) Hertwig, Gillett, Linda (Bill) Bublitz, Lena, brothers-in-law, Ken Mattrisch, Glenn (Laraine) Hanson, Kenai, AK, sisters-in-law, Bonnie Cerveny, Shawano, Janet MacArthur, West LaFayette, IN, and Linda (Dale) Halla, Cecil, and “favorite niece”, Joelle (Bryan) Soderbeck. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends, and special friend, Sue Suski. She also loved a special “son”, Pastor Henry Musana from Uganda. 

Sandy had a zest for life, loved people and loved to visit. She was a very positive and encouraging person. She worked over 40 years at the family business, The Flower Shoppe in Gillett, working up until Christmas Eve.  She truly loved her job and enjoyed visiting with her customers. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She loved the Lord and loved sharing her faith with many people she encountered. One of her favorite Bible verses is “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” -Joshua 24:15. 

Sandy loved her Green Bay Packers and having Packer parties. She was an avid Days of Our Lives watcher. She loved to playing cards with anyone willing to play. She enjoyed sitting out in the sun and reading. She loved spending time in Door County each summer for over 40 years with her sister, Linda, and Vicky Dobratz.  Mostly, she LOVED HER GRANDCHILDREN Jimmy, Libby, Sam, Amelia and Emerson. She LOVED going to their activities. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Arnold and Helen Hanson, brothers, Adolph Paholke Jr, Neil Paholke, Frederick Paholke, sisters, Anne Koch, and Marlene Paholke.

The family would like to thank the Gillett Area Ambulance EMTs and the caring emergency staff at HSHS St Clare Oconto Falls.

A public visitation to be held Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Bethel Lutheran Church – Cecil, WI (Hwy BB) from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm with private service and burial to follow with Rev. Bill Gruensturn officiating.  Kuehl Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time.

 A memorial fund has been established in Sandra’s name, the family has asked that face masks and social distancing be observed.

I loved to hear you talk & you always had a positive outlook on life. I know you loved the Lord & was a faithful servant of your father in heaven. Love! Elaine

    There was not a more friendly women in the world. Always there with a big smile and a easy laugh, to light up the room. Sandy will be missed by countless people. We lost a gem with her passing.

    Earnest and sincere sympathy to the family of Sandy Hanson. Many fond memories with Jim and Sandy- especially our trip out east in my ’63 Volkswagen. Many great times playing Shmear and Sheepshead , you are deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
