Mona Jean “Boots” Cournoyer

Mona Jean “Boots” Cournoyer, age 90, of Gillett, entered eternal life with her family by her side on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Mona was born in Abrams, WI to Edward and Alvina (Schultz) Bohl on January 12, 1927.  She was a 1945 graduate of Oconto Falls High School.

Mona lived an exemplary life of service, sacrifice and perseverance.  She is the “best mom in the whole world” who steadfastly dedicated her time and energy to raising seven children.  Even as her children entered and progressed through adulthood, her persistent prayers provided comfort and hope to her entire family.

Her generous spirit was noticeable in her life’s work where she served the elderly for many years as an employee at the Gillett nursing home.  She also provided in-home care and companionship for the homebound.

Mona was an avid sports fan and followed the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Bucks through good times and bad.   She was dedicated to praying the rosary daily.  Mona could always be seen with a copy of the Green Bay Press Gazette nearby.  Mona loved to cook; (who could ever forget her scrumptious 10 course meals), spend time in her garden, bowl, play BINGO and she could roll Yahtzee with the best of them!  Mona’s spark and sense of humor always left people feeling revitalized.

Mona is survived by her daughters: Lynn (Jerry) Skrobel, Sharon Nicklas, Lori (Buck) Bicek, Mary (Cleve Lipp) Sot and Patricia (John) Vandermause.  She also leaves 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mona was preceded in death by her two sons John Sot and Gary Sot, as well as her parents, Edward and Alvina Bohl and sister, Jean Wilson.

Memorial visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 AM Friday, January 12, 2018, at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH (127 Garden Avenue, Gillett, WI 54124).  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM with the Reverend Rico Eclar officiating.  Final rest will be in Brookside Cemetery.

The family sends special thanks to Woodland of Gillett, Heartland Hospice and Dr. Genadi Maltinski for their heartfelt and quality care.
