Mr. Lawrence E. (Larry) Madson, age 87, of rural Manitowoc entered eternal life at home on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, surrounded by his Loving Family.
Larry was born the son of the late Palmer and Christina (Griffin) Madson on May2, 1933. He was a graduate of Valders High School with the Class of 1951. On July12, 1958, he married his soul mate, LaVonne (Joy) Berge at Valders West Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty.
Larry, along with his wife Joy were the proud owners of the Madson and Berge Farms which have both been in the family since 1848. After marriage Larry and Joy took over the Madson family farm. In 1968 Larry and Joy started Madson Tiling & Excavating and then established Madson Trucking in 1984.
Larry was a devoted lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valders. He served in various capacities including; past president, head usher, and a member of the Men’s choir. He also belonged to the Manitowoc County Dartball League, Rustic Iron Club, and Land Improvement Contractors of America (in which he served as the State President). He enjoyed playing horseshoes in Valders, snowmobiling, golfing, and attending and participating in antique tractor and car shows. One of Larry and Joy’s greatest pleasures were spending time with family and attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat with friends, gardening, and spending countless hours on his tractor.
Surviving Larry is his loving wife of 62 and a half years: LaVonne (Joy) Madson; his daughters and sons-in-law: Ginger (Robert) Linsmeier, Branch, Jodi (Robert) Goehring, Cato. His sons and daughters-in-law: Tom (Rae) Madson, Kevin (Julie) Madson, both of rural Manitowoc, and his son-in-law Peter Reinertson of Valders. Grandchildren: Jessica (Aaron) Evans, Nic (Holly) Franz, Craig (Erica) Franz, Kristin Madson (“D” Chapman), Tyler (Alisa) Madson, Caleb (Stephanie) Madson, Eric Hill, Dana (Brian) McDonald, Christi Reinertson (Leroy Lenser), Derek (Melissa) Madson, Danielle (Brett) Glaeser, DJ Madson (Mallorie Larsen), step grandchildren; Jenny (Kirk) Pingel, Scott (Amanda) Linsmeier, Jessica (Kyle) Getter, Andrew (Lili) Goehring, Patrick Goehring (Stacy Engeldinger), and Emily (John) Pozniak. Great grandchildren Brielle, Breckin, Tenley, Lawson, Eva, Leo, Liam, Everett, Seth, Bryce, Ashlin, Aubrey, Connor, Macy, Angelica, Makenna, Nolan, and twins due in June. Also surviving are 12 step great grandchildren. One sister: Jean Madson, Green Bay. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by: His Parents, His Father and Mother-in-law Earl and Lucille Berge, daughter Kari Reinertson and infant daughter Kris, granddaughter Dawn Hill, and great grandson Bentley McDonald. Brothers and sister-in-law: Gordon Madson, James (Ramona) Madson, sisters and brothers-in-law: Grace Eva, Betty (Kenneth) Petri, Vivian (Myron) Herzog, and James Berge.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Jim Wilson. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at Gjerpen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Gjerpen Cemetery Association and Faith Lutheran Church.
