George Lehn

April 04, 1942 – January 04, 2013

George E. Lehn, age 70, Gillett, passed away peacefully with his wife and son by his side Friday January 4th, 2013 at his residence. He was born on April 4th, 1942 in Manitowoc, WI to the late George Lehn Sr. and Catherine Lehn (Pointek). George is survived by his wife Amelia; one son, Aaron; one sister, Melody (Scott) Fitzgerald; a nephew, Lehn Fitzgerald; three sister-in-laws, Jaqueline (Dave) Morrow, Geraldine Saurbeir, and Virginia Saurbeir; one brother in law, Hilbert Saurbeir and his main squeeze Mary; several nieces and nephews; and his nap pal Licorice. He is preceded in death by his father, George and mother, Catherine. George moved up here from Chicago in August of 1977 to purchase the Berry Lake Club. He thought he was already in God’s country. Little did he know then, that when he bought the bar it came with his two best friends, Kit-Kat and J.K. He loved to go hunting with friends Chris and Joel or sometimes go pontooning on Berry Lake with the Dukes and Duchesses. He spent a great many springs at the sugar shack with Louie Winkler, family and friends making maple syrup and playing rap poker. Being in the bar business for 35 years he has met so many wonderful people and made so many great friends. He truly enjoyed it. He loved to tell jokes and raise a glass with his friends. Sometimes a martini and a good cigar with George and Jim out on the deck made it a beautiful day. He loved to roam his back yard. Every spring he would walk around and look for the first spring flowers to come up. That really made him smile. His flower beds always gave him great pleasure. He was a very avid reader. He could hardly wait for Sundays to come so he could watch his beloved Packers. They gave him great joy over the many years. I would like to thank his “daughter” Bina for those afternoon lunches, he really enjoyed that and know that he really loves you girl! Also, thank you to Anna, another special “daughter” who was here for me when I really needed it. I would like to thank Steve as well for the many Tuesday Nights you and George went out and had your time. And Tony, a very close and dear friend who would come up from Chicago several times a year. They always had a great time going out to eat and having a few cocktails, or just hanging out in the back yard with a cigar. Thank you to our many wonderful friends and family that was my support and helped me with George during a very difficult time. You guys and gals know who you are and God bless you all! I would also like to thank Dr. Sarnwich and his staff for such good care of George over the years. Also Aurora Hospital staff at 3rd floor for being gentle and caring. Last but not least all those wonderful gal’s at Southern Hospice, you truly are angels, bless you. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday January 10th, 2013 at Kuehl Funeral home. The visitation will be followed by a celebration of George’s life at the Berry Lake Club for food and drink from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Kuehl Funeral Home (920)855-2144 will be assisting the family.
