Daniel (Dan) L. Peters

Daniel L. Peters, 71, passed away at his home June 5, 2020.

Dan was born December 19, 1948 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Donald and Florence (Van Den Plas) Peters. He married Shirley Kmecheck on September 30, 1978 and have been married for 41 years.     Dan lived in Green Bay most of his life while working for the Village of Ashwaubenon Public Works Department.  After retirement, he moved up north to the Suring area where he loved to spend most of his time during his working years.  Dan had so many friends, to list them all would not be possible as some would get missed.  There was no shortage of having fun being around Dan, you truly didn’t know him if you can’t think about him and smile.  He just loved life to the fullest; his main passion in his retirement years was fishing, give him a pole and some bait and he could be gone for days!  Dan was always on the lookout for a good deal. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and blaming his partner whenever they lost (31 for 2). He was truly one of a kind and boy could he dance to Johnny Cash…..  he is already deeply missed by those whose lives he has touched with his grace.

Dan truly lived for his family, friends, and his grandchildren and would always make time for them.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Peters; Children, Dawn (Dan) Gumieny; Dean Peters; Corey (Tiffany) Peters; Brothers, Mike Peters (Cindy Dahl); Randy (Diane) Peters; and twisted sister Lori (Todd) Witthuhn; 3 Grandchildren, Donny Gumieny; Derek Gumieny; and Daniel Gumieny.  Further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews and very special friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Kuehl Funeral Home 108 E. Main St. Gillett, Wisconsin FRIDAY June 12, 2020 from 4pm-7pm.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers a Memorial has been set up in Dan’s name.

RIP Dan – that is too young to leave us! I lived next door to his grandparents on the Duck Creek River, so I knew his Dad all my life!

Shirley & family, my deepest sympathy goes out to you. It was a pleasure to always talk to Dan & even as he was no longer able to do the things he loved, he would tell me who won the cribbage tournament & would ask where the fish were biting. I regret that him & I were never able to get together to fish up north, but I really enjoyed playing cribbage with him. He still makes me smile when I think of the many conversations I had with him. He will be missed. RIP Dan
