Chia X. Kong

August 08, 1948 – January 25, 2017

Chia Xay Kong was born on August 8, 1948 in Laos to Chong Lao Kong and Ying Her. He died Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

He married Maiv Her in 1962, and was blessed with his eldest daughter, Ying. Unfortunately, his wife Maiv Her had passed away in 1966. Chia Xay Kong remarried in 1967 to Paaj Her and gave birth to his second child, Cua. Due to being a prisoner of war, Chia Xay Kong lost his second wife in 1971. He married the love of his life, Chia Y Kong in 1972, who bore him nine sons and four daughters.

Chia Xay Kong was recruited by the United States CIA and served as a Radio Operator during Vietnam War in 1967. He became a POW in 1971 and survived the POW Camp and continued to serve for the United States CIA. His final ranking in the military was Luaib Two (2).

In July of 1979, Chia Xay Kong and his family were sponsored by Wayne and Elizabeth Mitchell to the United States. When he came to United States, he strived to adapt to the new world and provide for his family. He attained a degree from NWTC of Restaurant Cook Assistant in 1986 and became a naturalized US Citizen in 2002. He continued to serve his community was a great advocate to the Hmong Community. He elected as the President of the Hmong Center of Green Bay in 1985-1987 and was nominated and voted as the Kong Clan Leader of Green Bay for many years. In his last few years, he remained connected to the community. He was an advisor to the first Hmong women president of the Hmong Center of Green Bay, Mary Kong, whom is also his daughter-in-law.

Throughout his life, Chia Xay Kong shown that he is a man who always put his country and others above his own. He enjoyed serving his community, his family, and others more than spending his time to serve him. He was known to be a man with big heart and charismatic skills to solve issues within the Hmong community, especially when it came to Hmong culture and traditions and the well-being of the Hmong community. His departure will create a large emptiness in the heart of people who knew him and grew to love him throughout his life.

He is survived by nine sons, Yeng Kong, Cheng Kong, Meng Kong, Benjamin Kong, Koob Gene Kong, George Kong, John Kong, Nhia Kong, and Kou Kong; three daughters, Ying Susan Yang, Judy Kong, and Gee Jenny Kong. Three Brothers, True Kong, Poua Kong and Fong Kong. Six daughter-in-laws, three son-in-laws, 29 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Chia Xay Kong will be at Legacy Funeral Chapels on 838 S Fisk St, Green Bay, WI 54304, February 11-12, 2017 9AM to 1:00AM and Monday, 9AM to 11 AM. His final resting place will be February 13, 2017 at 11AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1542 Webster Ave, Green Bay, WI 54301.
