Lulabelle Jane Drath

Lulabelle Jane (Braun) Drath, age 80, of Gillett, who loved Jesus went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

 

She was born in Shawano on June 29, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter and Nora (Dumke) Braun.  Lulabelle attended local schools and was a graduate of Gillett High School.  She married Leon James Drath on February 10, 1962 and together they raised two daughters.  The family made their home in Brookfield before retiring to Gillett in a home that Lulabelle herself designed.

 

Lulabelle had the deepest heart for God and for her children, grandchildren, family, friends and everyone she met.  Her greatest mission in life was to share her love of God and that others would also follow and love Jesus.  Her legacy will be treasured in every prayer she said and every wonderful sweet memory.  She was creative and talented in all areas of life.  Her greatest joy in life was to be home with her loved ones.  She was a loyal member of Hillside Assembly of God Church in Gillett.  Lulabelle was the kindest and most precious woman of faith her entire life.

 

Lulabelle is survived by her daughters: Karla (Terry) Price of Sussex and Judy (Chuck) Truax of Bonduel; her grandchildren: David, Kari (Paul), Daniel, Kristina (Shay), Melissa (Drew), Jessica, Nathan and CJ (Jilane); her great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Noah, Kinslee, Zeeten, Naj, Elijah and Ezra; her special niece, Jody; her sisters: Muriel (Jim) Wilke of Gillett and Charitee (Joe) McKenna of Cecil a sister-in-law Dolores (Clay) Juno of Brookfield and her aunt Edna Miller of Coleman.  She is further survived by cousins, nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

 

Lulabelle was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Leon of over 52 years, her siblings: Harold (Eleanor) Braun, Virginia (Eddie) Patzer, Llewellyn “Buddy” Braun and Charmaine Stewart as well as her infant siblings Walter, Norvellus and Arbutus.  She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Alex Truax.

 

Family and friends may call on the family on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 11 to 12:45 PM at HILLSIDE ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH (5890 State HWY 22 W, Gillett, WI 54124).  A funeral service will be held at 1 PM.  Interment will be in Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery with a luncheon in church to follow.

Susan Ann Benzinger

Susan Ann Benzinger

Susan Ann (Luedeman) Benzinger, age 68, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 30, 2018.  Her family was by her side.

 

Susan was born in Oconto Falls on August 16, 1950, a daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Flick) Luedeman.  She attended local schools and was a 1968 graduate of Gillett High School.  She went on to attend NWTC earning an associates degree.  Susan married Jack Benzinger on February 4, 1977 in Marinette and together they raised two sons.  She worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration retiring in 2008 after 37 years.

 

Susan loved spending time with her beloved husband, children and grandchildren and also with the family pet, the late Mollie.  She attended her grandsons’ soccer games regularly and was an avid gardener and reader.  She enjoyed annual Caribbean cruises, birdwatching and monthly luncheons with close friends.  Susan was loved dearly by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

 

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Jack, of over 41 years; her sons: Chad (Kelly) Benzinger of Lakeville, MN and Ryan (Melissa) Benzinger of Sturgeon Bay, WI.  She also leaves her grandchildren: Adison, Aiden, Ashton, Belle and Ian and her sister Beth (Tim) Christensen of Gillett.  Susan is further survived by her sisters-in-law: Carol (Jerry) Byrd, Sandra (Perry) Ackeret and Colleen (Larry) Lasecke; her brothers-in-law: Gary (Lois) Benzinger, Phil Benzinger and Scott (Julie) Benzinger; five nieces, five nephews, other loving extended family and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Philip Luedeman, her in-laws Albert and Marge Benzinger and her sister-in-law Wanda Benzinger.

 

The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Peter and Nurse Abby at Prevea for their devoted care.

 

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 10 to 11:45 AM at ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (127 Garden Avenue, Gillett, WI 54124).  A Mass of Christian burial with Reverend Robert Ni Ni will be celebrated at 12 Noon.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Gillett.

December 10, 1955- September 17, 2018

Khua Por Vang was born to the parents of Cha Thao Vang and Ma Yang (both deceased), in Thailand on December 10th, 1955.  He departed in the early morning of September 17, 2018 at 62 yrs of age.  He leaves behind his beloved wife Sia Lee- Vang, along with five sons and two daughters.  He is survived by his sons, Blia Vang (Mai Vue Yang), Ker Vang (Lilian Yang), Tom Vang (Kathy Lee), Jesse Vang, and Na Vang.  His daughters, Ying Vang (Sao Xiong) and Phoua Vang (Tou Vue).   He also leaves behind 7 grand-sons and 11 grand-daughters.  Grand-sons includes Calvin Vang, Yuki Vang, Malakai Vang, Hiro Xiong, Gyden Xiong, Mokee Xiong, and Niko Yang.  Grand-daughters includes Annie Vang, Celine Vang, Harmony Vang, Everly Vang, Luna Vang, Asia Yang, Priya Yang, Krystalina Vue, Lilyanna Vue and is expecting two granddaughters.

Senior Lt. Khua Por Vang served in the US Special Force in Laos during the Vietnam War in his early years, and will be remembered as a Lao Veteran of America, Inc.

James F. “Jim” Kuehl

James F. “Jim” Kuehl

James F. “Jim” Kuehl, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

 

Jim was born in Gillett on April 29, 1935, a son of the late Frank and Norma (Larsen) Kuehl.  He attended local schools and was a graduate of Gillett High School.  Jim served briefly in the US Army during the Korean War, returning home to help his ailing father run the family businesses; Kuehl’s Furniture and Funeral Home.  Jim would later focus on running the Furniture Store while his brother, Armin ran the funeral home.

 

Jim was a great lover of baseball and was left handed pitcher.  He once tried out for the Atlanta Braves.  Jim also spent over 37 years as a letter carrier for the post office.  In addition, he ran several taverns and other area establishments, including the Legion Arcade as well as River Island Country Club, of which he was a member.

 

Jim was an avid golfer and an even bigger Packer fan.  He and his wife Rita traveled to Las Vegas many times over the years.  Jim played lots of golf with family and friends and was the winner of a number of tournaments and club championships.  He enjoyed cards and gambling and was well known at many of the areas establishments to stop in for their daily games, etc.  Jim loved to live and play hard and fast.  He will be sadly missed.

 

Jim is survived by his children: Tom (Michelle) Kuehl of Green Bay, Steve Kuehl of Stiles, Gary (Calla) Kuehl of Fond du Lac, Laura Kuehl of Suamico and Kevin (Sonja) Kuehl of Green Bay; his step-children: Kristine (Russ) Johnson of Germantown and Thomas (Lori) Casey of Menasha; her step-children:.  He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, his former wife Joann, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Rita and his brother Armin (Jerry Ann) Kuehl.

Donald Lee Gilbertson

Donald Lee Gilbertson

Donald Lee Gilbertson, age 82, Gillett, entered into rest on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing Home in Shawano.

 

He was born at home in the Town of Green Valley on June 20, 1936, a son of the late William and Pauline (Hansen) Gilbertson.  Donald attended local schools.  He married Laurice F. (Madison) on June 21, 1958 and together they raised three children.  For Donald, farming was his life and he and Laurice farmed for many years in the Town of Gillett.

 

Donald was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served in many capacities over the years, including the church council.  In earlier years, he played church dart ball and had been involved with 4-H.  Donald never had a harsh word for anyone and had many friends.  He always wore a smile and had a great sense of humor.  He will be sadly missed.

 

Donald is survived by his children: Colleen (Ronnie) Thomson, Janalee (Jesse) Jenerou and Kyle (Robin) Gilbertson; his grandchildren: John (special friend Nicki) Zeitler, Justin (special friend Haley) Coppens, Jason (Ashley) Zeitler, Megan Coppens, Nicholas Thomson, Jordan Thomson, Madison Thomson, Amanda Jenerou and Parker Jenerou.  He also leaves his great-grandchildren: Emma, Joanna and Abigael, a sister Carol (Keith) Hansen, a sister-in-law Christine Gilbertson, a brother-in-law Jacob Prahl as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Laurice of over 54 years, his sisters: Margaret (Leonard) Hicks and Charlotte Prahl and his brother Charles Gilbertson.

 

The family sends special thanks to the staff of Serenity Gardens for making Donald feel like part of the “family”.  The family also thanks Evergreen of Shawano as well as the ThedaCare Hospice team.

 

Friends and relatives may call on the family on THURSDAY, September 27, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM at LEGACY FUNERAL CHAPELS (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124).  Visitation will continue FRIDAY, September 28, 2018 from 9 to 10:45 AM at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH (N6955 County Road BB, Oconto Falls, WI 54154).  A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Bill Gruenstern officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery with a reception and meal to follow in the church hall.
