Dennis K. Evenson

Dennis K. Evenson entered eternal life to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.  He was born on March 17, 1941, to Bennet and Myrna (Damm) Evenson.  He was the youngest of 10 children and grew up on the family farm in rural Valders.  He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime active member.  He graduated from Valders High School in 1959 and then served in the U.S. Army for two years.  On December 29, 1963 he married Marlene Behnke at St. John-St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville.  They were blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Gail.

Dennis was employed with Evenson Construction in his younger years and then worked at Krueger Lumber Company for 30 years where he drove a log truck, a job he never thought of as work.  After his retirement he loved helping his son-in-law on the farm during harvest time.  He also enjoyed taking his horse for a drive around the country block, keeping a very neat lawn and yard, and tinkering in his shed.  During his younger years he loved those Sunday afternoon Harley rides with Marlene and friends.  He was a member of American Legion Post 28, Valders, and served as a head usher at Faith Lutheran Church and was on the cemetery committee for many years.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Marlene.  Daughters and sons-in-law; Deborah and Michael Goehring, and Gail and Mark McCulley of Clarks Mills.  Six grandchildren; Travis Goehring (Kayla Meetz), Aliza and Adam Sabourin, Dayton Goehring (Hailee Jacobs), Trevor McCulley (Taylor Wagner), Austin and Brittany McCulley, Stetson McCulley (Lindsey Brennan).  Four great grandchildren, Allison and Kace Goehring, Ryah Sabourin, Bennett McCulley, and baby Sabourin due in February.

He is also survived by two sisters; Joyce Wiegert, and Virginia Meyer, a brother-in-law; Daniel Meyer.  Sisters-in-law; Margaret Evenson, Veronica Evenson, and Judy Evenson.  Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Marlyn, Gene, Donald, and Roger Evenson.  Three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ted Jeske, Ruby and Bud Meyer, June Meyer, William Wiegert, and Robert Meyer.  Also preceding him in death are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Waldemar and Lavida Behnke, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Carol and Greg Brehmer, along with several nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:00 am with visitation from 9:00 am until 10:45 am.  Burial will follow at Valders West Cemetery with military rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Faith Lutheran Church or the Lakeshore Humane Society.
