Martin J. Smits

Martin J. Smits, 93, Gillett, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

He was born in Cooks, MI on May 5, 1926, a son of the late Martin H. and Rose (Boehm) Smits.  Martin was a graduate of Suring High School and went on to serve honorably in the US Army.  He married Alice Mae (Jeske) on November 24, 1956 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring and together they raised three children.

Martin farmed for much of his life in Gillett.  He enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, farming and had a love for animals and flowers; especially lilies and Christmas cactus.  Martin previously served on the board of directors for Midland Co-op.

Martin is survived by his children: Curtis (Cindi) Smits, Daryl (Patsy) Smits and Carol (Mike) Petrina.  He also leaves his grandchildren: Stacy Smits, Troy Smits, Kevin (Kelli) Smits, Andy (Danielle) Smits, Trent Smits, Alissa Petrina, Faith Petrina and Ashley Petrina; his great-grandchildren: Joseph, Jarret, Ellie, Bryant, Marty, Bennett, Blake and Brooklyn.  Martin is further survived by his siblings: Anna Mae (the late Robert) Blazer and George (Doris) Smits, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Alice, as well as his siblings: Stella (Charlie) Heaney, Norbert (Harriet) Smits, Isabella (Ellis) McMahon, Sylvia (Quentin) Christensen.

Martin’s children wish to thank the loving and caring staff at Serenity Gardens and Unity Hospice for the special attention and care they provided to their Dad.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 9 to 10:45 at ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (127 Garden Avenue, Gillett, WI 54124).  A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Sr. Marla Clercx officiating.  Full military honors will be given outside the church.  Interment will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arthur W.C. Krueger

Arthur W. C. Krueger, 91, Oconto Falls, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Oconto Falls.

 

He was born in Shawano on July 21, 1928, a son of the late Otto and Jenny (Johnson) Krueger.  Arthur went on to serve honorably in the US Navy.  He was married to Jean (White) and together they raised five sons.  He was a former employee of American Motors in Milwaukee.

 

Arthur leaves his sons and their wives: Thomas Krueger, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jim (Marie) Krueger, DeLand, FL, Dave (Christy) Krueger, Oconto Falls, Jerry (Marie “M.J.”) Krueger of DeLand, FL and Robert Krueger of DeLand, FL.  He also leaves his grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Scott, Jacob, Shawn, Clyde and Claudine and his great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Tatum, Jovie, Cali and Layla.

 

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean in 2014 and two infant brothers: Carl and Henry.

 

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM at LEGACY FUNERAL CHAPELS (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124).  A funeral service will follow at 4 PM.  Interment with full military will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-PULCIFER.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff of the former Woodland Village Nursing Home of Gillett as well as Atrium Post Acute Care of Oconto Falls for their kind and compassionate care of Arthur.

Grace J. Kaminski

Grace J. Kaminski, age 92, Suamico, peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Cardinal Ridge in Howard.

 

Grace was born on January 23, 1927 to the late William and Frances (Kuske) Herr.  On December 30, 1944, Grace was united in marriage to Andrew “Andy” Kaminski and they enjoyed almost 68 years together.  Andy preceded her in death on June 30, 2012.

 

She was a loving and energetic mother. She loved to cook and bake.  Summer was always enjoyed by picking strawberries, cherries, blackberries and apples then baking her favorite pies.  Many happy years were spent at the cottage at Green Lake where she welcomed family and friends.  Her grandchildren were always surprised with a special birthday cake.

 

Grace worked for the Howard-Suamico School District for over 30 years.  She was a member of St. Benedict Parish and treasurer of the St. Theresa Altar Society for 40 years.  She loved working at the picnics and fish fry’s.

 

Grace is survived by her children: Geraldine (Jim) Corbeille and Ronald Kaminski; grandchildren: Kelly Young, Greg (Kathy) Kaminski and Cody Kaminski; great-grandchildren: Sienna and Whitney Young, Caiden and Colton Kaminski and her brother Norbert Herr.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andy, an infant daughter and her grandchild Chad Corbeille.  She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law: Earl and Elsie Herr and her sister-in-law June Herr.

 

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Cardinal Ridge for their warm and loving care.  A special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice for their loving care during Grace’s last days.

 

Friends and relatives may call on the family on MONDAY, August 12, 2019 from 9 to 10:45 AM at ST. BENEDICT CATHOLIC CHURCH (3370 Deerfield Lane West, Suamico, WI 54173).  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Sandra May Miller

Sandra May (Zittlow) Miller, 71, Gillett, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 2, 2019 surrounded by her family.

 

She was born in Green Bay on January 20, 1948, a daughter of the late Norbert and Dorothy (Lindner) Zittlow.  Sandy married Vernon Miller on September 21, 1968 and together they raised four daughters.  Sandy worked at Even Flow and later for Wichman’s BP in Suring.  She was an avid reader of mystery novels and loved spending time with family and friends.  Sandy also loved to cook and enjoyed cooking shows.   She will be sadly missed.

 

She leaves behind her husband, Vern, of over 50 years, her daughters: Rhonda (Patrick) Flynn of Gillett, Stacie (Dan) Chapin of Gillett, Dawn (John) Wenninger of Wautoma and Leanne (Brandon) Miller, also of Wautoma.  Sandy also leaves her grandchildren: Eric Fellenz, Amber Fellenz, Ashley Marshall, Austin Miller, Emily Wenninger, Haley Miller, Abbey Miller, Reese Chapin, Jake Wenninger, Hannah Miller and Carly Chapin  She is further survived by her siblings: Bob (Joan) Zittlow of Shawano, Beverly (Walter) McNeill of Davenport, IA, Carol (Keith) Mogged of Green Bay and Connie (Del) Miller of Gillett, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother James and her brothers Norbert, Jr., Gerald, Richard and Ronald.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the LONE OAK GUN CLUB (6555 HWY 32 N, Gillett, WI 54124). Please join the family.

 

The family sends special thanks to the staffs of St. Vincent Hospital and Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Sandy.

Earl Enoch “Sonny’ Red Hail, Jr.

Earl Enoch “Sonny” Red Hail, Jr., Oneida, age 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.  He was surrounded by family.

 

Sonny was born in Cheyenne River, South Dakota on April 15, 1949, a son of the late Earl E., Sr. and Lorraine Patricia (Skenandore) Red Hail.  He moved to Milwaukee and later to Oneida where he did custodial work for the Oneida Tribe. Sonny was care taker by nature, and will be sadly missed.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Beth Paprocki, Oneida, his children: Earl Enoch Red Hail, III, Sky (Danny Gonzales) Red Hail, Katrina (Lance Denny, Jr.) Paprocki, all of Green Bay, Abalone Paprocki and Wi-Yan Duta Red Hail, both of Oneida. Sonny also leaves his brothers and sisters: Roger (Colleen) Red Hail, Gene Red Hail, Barbara Red Hail, Hehaka Red Hail, Roy (Violet) Red Hail and Carol Red Hail.  He is further survived by his grandchildren: Samual, Natalea, Sonny, Awenasah, Lorraine, Andrew, Lennex and Edward, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Michael and Melvin Red Hail as well as by an infant sister, Laura.

 

A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held at the ONEIDA SACRED BURIAL GROUNDS (101-499 W. Adam Drive, Hobart, WI 54115) on Sunday, August 11, 2019 beginning at 1 PM.  A feast will follow at the family residence at 4 PM.

 

The family sends special thanks to the fire keepers; those who brought food and drinks, the Paprocki family for their continued help and support, Jodell Crawford as well as to the nurses who cared for him in his final days: Marilyn, Stacy, Holly, Kelsey and Liz.
