Ervin E. Wetzel

Ervin E. Wetzel departed this life May 21, 2019 at Shawano Health Services. He was born the fourth of five children to parents Henry and Katharina (Magewske) Wetzel in the Town of Gillett, Oconto County, on August 24, 1919.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Gillett and graduated from Gillett High School. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 with assignments in New Zealand, Australia, India, North Africa, Italy, West Africa, and Brazil. He graduated from Milwaukee Vocational School as a machinist apprentice and worked for Kerney & Trecker / Giddings & Lewis, Milwaukee his entire career until his retirement.

Ervin particularly enjoyed round dancing and square dancing. He also made many trips back to northeast Wisconsin to visit friends and relatives and assist with farming activities.

Ervin is survived by nephews Eugene Schultz, Shawano WI and Allen (Mary) Schultz, Powell TN.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 10 to 11 AM at LEGACY FUNERAL CHAPELS (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124). Funeral services will follow at 11 AM with Ervin’s grandnephew, Vicar Adam Schultz, officiating the service. Burial with full military honors will follow at Wanders Rest Cemetery, Gillett WI.

Lonnie Lee Genke

Lonnie Lee Genke

Lonnie L. Genke, age 77, Suring, formerly Gillett, died Monday, May 20, 2019 following a long period of declining health.

He was born in Shawano, WI on October 22, 1941, a son of the late Clarence and Ethel (Klosterman) Genke. Lonnie attended local schools and was a lifetime resident of the area. Lonnie was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett. It was there that he married Joyce (Petersen) on June 6, 1970.

Lonnie worked at Linewood Plywood and Ansorge Distributing. After retiring, he worked at Witt’s Piggly Wiggly. In his free time, Lonnie enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing as well as dancing to and listening to Polka music. He was also active in his church dartball league. Lonnie was a friend to many and will be sadly missed.

Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory; three sisters: Donna (Bill) Delzer, Cecil, Goldeen (Dave) Uelman, Shawano and Joy (Roger) Hartwig, Green Bay; two brothers: Donald (Ramona) Genke, Gillett and Larry (Peggy) Genke, Sheboygan. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews who he adored; other relatives and friends.

He will also be remembered by his special nurse, Jenny Freidman, her son Dakota and special friend Donnie Parduhn.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Joyce and his sister-in-law Kathleen Bea Genke.

The family sends special thanks to Woodlands of Gillett, Woodland Village Nursing Home of Suring and Unity Hospice. Their kind and compassionate care of Lonnie will never be forgotten.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 9 to 10:45 AM at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (101 W. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124). A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Richard Harold “Dick” Trever

Richard Harold “Dick” Trever

Richard Harold “Dick” Trever, 66, Town of Underhill, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 30, 2019.

 

He was born August 16, 1952 to Harold and Nellie (Christensen) Trever. Dick attended Suring schools and graduated in 1970. He received a degree in auto mechanics from NWTC and spent the rest of his life fixing everything from cars to tractors to computers to the people he loved. Dick was the parts manager at Farmers Implement in Shawano until it closed. He then opened his own repair business, Sand Rapids Equipment, in 1987 and ran that until his death.

 

Dick married Elizabeth Verhoven on May 27, 2000 and together they loved all their children and grandchildren. He also taught small engine repair at Gillett High School in the early 2000s. Dick enjoyed sudoku, nature walks, watching Jeopardy, stock car races, and giving his grandchildren nicknames. Richard loved his family above all else, and his faith in God was an inspiration to all who knew him.

 

Dick is survived by his loving wife of almost 19 years, Elizabeth; their children: Christy Lockstein, Chris (Jennifer) Abel, Jeremy Abel, Michelle Abel, Cory Trever, Cynthia (Jeremy) Doblinger, and Jacob Bergmann; grandchildren: Douglas “Buck” Kallies, Molly “Max” (Michael) Kocken, Amelia “Belle” Lockstein, KayLynn Rios, Nina Abel, Coleten Andersen, Andrew “Bug” and Adrian Trever, Bryce “Sparky” and Megan “Sally” Doblinger; great-grandchildren: Gavin “Bo” and Vivian “Nelle” Kocken; his sister Diane Hansen; and many niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald, and his brother-in-law Ralph Hansen.

 

Memorial visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM at MAPLE VALLEY COMMUNITY CHURCH (8992 County HWY Z, Suring, WI 54174).  A funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor William “Bill” Krauss officiating.  Final rest will be private.

 

The family would like to thank the Gillett Area Ambulance and ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano for the care they gave to Richard and his family.  Special thanks also to officer Woodke of the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department for his support.
