Chia X. Kong

Chia Xay Kong was born on August 8, 1948 in Laos to Chong Lao Kong and Ying Her. He died Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

He married Maiv Her in 1962, and was blessed with his eldest daughter, Ying. Unfortunately, his wife Maiv Her had passed away in 1966. Chia Xay Kong remarried in 1967 to Paaj Her and gave birth to his second child, Cua. Due to being a prisoner of war, Chia Xay Kong lost his second wife in 1971. He married the love of his life, Chia Y Kong in 1972, who bore him nine sons and four daughters.

Chia Xay Kong was recruited by the United States CIA and served as a Radio Operator during Vietnam War in 1967. He became a POW in 1971 and survived the POW Camp and continued to serve for the United States CIA. His final ranking in the military was Luaib Two (2).

In July of 1979, Chia Xay Kong and his family were sponsored by Wayne and Elizabeth Mitchell to the United States. When he came to United States, he strived to adapt to the new world and provide for his family. He attained a degree from NWTC of Restaurant Cook Assistant in 1986 and became a naturalized US Citizen in 2002. He continued to serve his community was a great advocate to the Hmong Community. He elected as the President of the Hmong Center of Green Bay in 1985-1987 and was nominated and voted as the Kong Clan Leader of Green Bay for many years. In his last few years, he remained connected to the community. He was an advisor to the first Hmong women president of the Hmong Center of Green Bay, Mary Kong, whom is also his daughter-in-law.

Throughout his life, Chia Xay Kong shown that he is a man who always put his country and others above his own. He enjoyed serving his community, his family, and others more than spending his time to serve him. He was known to be a man with big heart and charismatic skills to solve issues within the Hmong community, especially when it came to Hmong culture and traditions and the well-being of the Hmong community. His departure will create a large emptiness in the heart of people who knew him and grew to love him throughout his life.

He is survived by nine sons, Yeng Kong, Cheng Kong, Meng Kong, Benjamin Kong, Koob Gene Kong, George Kong, John Kong, Nhia Kong, and Kou Kong; three daughters, Ying Susan Yang, Judy Kong, and Gee Jenny Kong. Three Brothers, True Kong, Poua Kong and Fong Kong. Six daughter-in-laws, three son-in-laws, 29 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Chia Xay Kong will be at Legacy Funeral Chapels on 838 S Fisk St, Green Bay, WI 54304, February 11-12, 2017 9AM to 1:00AM and Monday, 9AM to 11 AM. His final resting place will be February 13, 2017 at 11AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1542 Webster Ave, Green Bay, WI 54301.

Virginia Miller

March 15, 1934 – January 14, 2017

Virginia (Adamski) Miller, 82, of Pound, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14.
Born March 15, 1934, to the late John and Lillian Adamski of Pound, she graduated from the School of Cosmetology in Milwaukee. A devoted Christian, she loved the Lord with all her heart and will be missed by her loved ones.
She enjoyed painting, cards, bingo, camping, fishing, crocheting, singing and playing gospel music on her piano, was an avid Packer fan and was known for being a good cook.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Delue F. Miller; eight children, Dennis (Kathy) Miller, Diane (Jim) Wendt, Mike Miller, Mary (Bill) Moes, Connie (Jeff) Wieting, Delue T. (Simone) Miller, Scott (Debi) Miller and Mark Miller; a sister, Marlene (Harvey) Stenstrup; a brother, Richard Adamski; many nieces; nephews; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Don and Bill Adamski and a sister, Dorothy Lahmann.

April 19, 1930 – January 14, 2017

Lillian M. Miller, age 86, Gillett, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Woodlands of Suring. She was surrounded by family.

Lillian was born in Gillett on April 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Robert and Hattie (Mueller) Zahn. She attended local schools, and was a lifelong Gillett resident. Lillian was married to Roy Miller on June 10, 1950 and together they raised three children. She worked as a bookkeeper and was employed by Parkside Dairy from 1951 to 1979 and by Seneca Foods from 1972 until the time of her retirement in 1997. In her free time, Lillian enjoyed crocheting and working on jig saw puzzles. She will be sadly missed.

Lillian is survived by her son, Dean (Nancy) Miller and her daughters Judith (Sherban) Westenberger and Laura Beyer. She is further survived by her siblings Marvin (the late Dorothy) Zahn, Ronald (Jody) Zahn and Beatrice (James) Krause; her grandchildren: Renae (Jeff) Vollmer, Paul (Kerry) Westenberger, Kim (Joel) Klose, Jesse (Janalee) Jenerou, Amy (Kevin) Seefeldt, Zachary and Ashley Beyer. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and numerous friends.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roy Miller.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on TUESDAY, January 17, 2017 at FAITH UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH (11465 Old U, Gillett, WI 54124) from 9 to 10:45 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor John Laatsch officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

The family sends special thanks to Katie as well as the staffs of Heartland Hospice and Woodlands of Suring for their care and compassion of Lillian.

March 09, 1921 – January 06, 2017

George Wesley Jewell, 95, Oceanside, California and formerly of Gillett, Wisconsin, passed away Friday January 6th, 2017.

He was born March 9th 1921 in Gillett to Robert W. and Bernice (Scutt) Jewell, one of ten children. George was baptized in Gillett Methodist Church and went to Quarterline Grade School, a one room school house. He graduated from Gillett High School, class of 1939 and later enlisted in the US Army in April of 1941. George served with the 32nd Division Red Arrow in New Guinea and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

He went to Marquette University on the G.I. Bill and graduated as a civil engineer. George moved to California and worked for Haliberton/Dick Chaney where he met and married, Betty Bryant.

Survivors are one son, Jeffery (Debbi) Jewell of Sima Valley, California; granddaughters Pam and Cindy Jewell and one great-grandson, Kale. George also leaves his siblings: Lois Riemer, Cora Rotter-Boerst, Robert (Lynn) Jewell, Bernice (Robert) Paulson; sister- in-law Lorraine Jewell and Rosalee Jewell as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his brothers Wilmer (Leona), Harvey (Norma Jean) and Rodney Jewell; his sister Alice (Elmer) Hansen, Mary Jean; his brothers-in-law, Etheral McNulty and Victor Berger, Leon Riemer, Ollie Boerst and Bill Rotter as well as a sister-in-law Virginia Jewell.

George was a longtime blood donor until he was 90 and was also an organ donor. He always kept in touch with his classmates and Army buddies. He and his wife, Betty, loved traveling and go on cruises to European countries, as well as Russia, Australia and the Panama Canal.

George returned to Wisconsin often for family reunions, “Jewell-Gillette”. He always made a point to go across the railroad bridge over the Oconto River to his family farm where his family lived all their younger years. That farm was homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1880’s. As a young man, George enjoyed swimming every summer day with his entire neighborhood, playing horse shoes and ball games.
