Philip Zippel, of Gillett, age 77 passed away July 27, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care, Oconto Falls, WI.

He was born July 27th 1939, in the town Oconto Falls to Carl and Evelyn (Nass) Zippel.
Philip went to grade school at the North Branch until entering High School in Gillett. He went to work for his family’s earth moving company (Zippel Construction Incorporated) at the age of 16, until he became ill June of 2016.

He married LaVerne (Tiegs) in November of 1960. Together they had one son, Todd. LaVerne preceded him in death in 2012.

Philip had one hobby in life, and that was working. He actually enjoyed it, and an “occasional” Miller High Life. Philip and LaVerne raised beef cattle for many years on their farm; he enjoyed logging on their property in the slow times of the winter making firewood. He was skilled in the operation of earthmovers, excavators, and dozers, with his choice of brand being the Caterpillar.

After his father’s passing, he and his brothers Everett and Gaylord continued operation of the company until the time of his illness.

Philip was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne in 2012. Parents Carl and Evelyn Zippel, Gillett. A brother Everett Zippel, Gillett and one sister Lois Zippel Oconto Falls. Brother’s in law Ivan Tiegs, Tennessee, Ralph Tiegs, Oconto.

Survivors include his son Todd (Nancy) Zippel of Gillett. His brother Gaylord Zippel of Gillett, nieces and nephews as well as his brothers and sisters in law.

The family would like to thank Atrium of Oconto Falls, and Unity Hospice.

At Philip’s request, all services will be private. Final rest will be in Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery.

Sarah Elizabeth Strommen

May 13, 1976 – July 27, 2016

Sarah E. Strommen, Gillett, age 40, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. She was born in Illinois on May 13, 1976, a daughter of David and Christine (Salzer) Strommen.

Sarah is survived by her mother, Christine of Green Bay, her brother Bryan (Julie) Strommen of Atlanta, GA, Carrie (David) Lennie of Peoria, IL and John (Cathy) Strommen of Des Plaines, IL. She also leaves four nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by her father, David.

Sarah was under the care of New View Industries of Gillett for over 20 years.

A gathering of family and friends will take place WEDNESDAY, August 10, 2016 from 11 to 12 Noon at the KUEHL FUNERAL HOME (108 E. Main Street, Gillett, WI 54124). A memorial service will follow at 12 noon with the Reverend Bill Kamke officiating. Final rest will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Green Bay.

The family sends special thanks to New View Industries, Visions of Oconto, REM Staff, Lakeland Care District as well as the staff of Unity Hospice.

Elizabeth “Betty” E. Tobin

July 13, 1923 – July 26, 2016

Elizabeth E. “Betty” Tobin (Bastien), age 93 of Gillett, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26th, 2016. Betty was born in Stephenson, Michigan, on July 13, 1923, a daughter of the late Peter and Ada (Bunker) Bastien. Elizabeth was married to William Bernard Tobin on December 19th, 1951 and together raised three children. Betty was a retired teacher from Wabeno School District. She settled in Gillett, WI where she was an active member of the St. John’s Catholic Church as well as the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, music, theatre, travel, family holiday gatherings and the Packers. She never forgot to remind her Minnesota family of a Packers win over the Vikings! Her passion was for teaching, which she did for over 48 years. She deeply valued her family and many good friends in Wabeno and Gillett who helped her through life’s journey. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Elizabeth leaves her three children: Jeff (Linda) Tobin of Schofield, WI, Jane Kitkowski of Collierville, TN, and Peter (Cheryl) Tobin of DePere, WI. She will also be remembered by her brother Paul (Francis) Bastien of Glasgow KY and her grandchildren: Zachary (Sara) Kitkowski, Nathan (Jennifer) Kitkowski, Elissa (Chris) Hendricks, Jessica, Jacob and Hunter Tobin. She is further survived by her Great-Grandchildren: Henry, Miles, Gabriel, Evelyn, Lydia, Finley and Nolan.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Bernard, siblings; Margaret, Carl, Harold, Mary Ada, James and a dear friend Margaret Linder.

The family wants to express special thanks and gratitude to Sister Marla Clerex and the staff at Unity Hospice. Your kindness and care will never be forgotten.

Memorial Visitation will be from 9:00am to 10:45am THURSDAY, August 4, 2016 at ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (127 Garden Avenue, Gillett, WI 54124). A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00am with the Reverend Dean Dombrowski and Sr. Marla Clercx officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.

Bruce A. Erb

Bruce A. Erb

August 22, 1953 – July 07, 2016

Bruce A. Erb, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 7, 2016.

He was born in Oconto Falls on August 22, 1953, a son of the late Victor M. and Mabel E. (Rueckert) Erb. Bruce attended local schools and was a 1972 graduate of Gillett High School. He worked at Techniply as a shipping clerk for almost 40 years.

Bruce was a lifelong and active member of Christ Lutheran Church-Hintz and held various positions over the years. He was currently an Elder of the church. He was also a past Boy Scout Leader.

In his free time, Bruce enjoyed walking and running and had completed his 30th Bellin Run in June. He had a great interest in genealogy and traced the family back to the 17th century. Bruce was a devoted family man and animal lover and will be greatly missed.

Bruce leaves his siblings: William “Bill” (Doris) Erb of Suring, Marj (August) Vorpahl of Shawano, Victoria (Wallace) Fifield of Oconto Falls, Leone (special friend Darrel Melis) Christensen of Gillett and Tommy Erb of Cecil. He is further survived by his Godchildren: Peter (Wendy) Vorpahl, Brigett Manecke and Beth Christensen; aunt and uncles, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, his cat “Pesky”, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ervin (Pinky) Erb, his sister-in-law Marilynn Erb, his brother-in-law Ralph Christensen and his niece Tammie Gustman.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Monday, July 11, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at the KUEHL FUNERAL HOME (108 E. Main Street, Gillett) and on Tuesday, July 12 from 10 to 10:45 AM at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH-HINTZ (6905 Red Bank Road, Gillett). A funeral service with the Reverend Michael Paholke will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Jerry Ann (Sparks) Kuehl , 84, died July 3, 2016
after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jerry Ann is survived by her husband Armin Kuehl Green Bay, WI daughter Pam (Bob) Van Dyke, and son Jeff Kuehl (De Pere, WI), brother-in-law Jim (Rita) Kuehl, Cecil, WI, sister-in-law Violet Mertz, Salina, KS niece Karen Hendrickson, Palm Desert, CA and nephew Doug (Barb) Sparks of Littleton, CO niece Cinda Barrett nephews, Ron and Steve Barrett.
She was preceded in death by her parents Corinne and Jerry Sparks, Aunt Lois and Grandpa “Maj” Bowles and Aunt Illadel and Grandpa Wayne Elliot,
(2 brothers) Mack and Monte Sparks and (sister) Rowena (Eli) Barrett and nephew Monte.
Jerry Ann enjoyed golfing with friends and family, winter trips to Florida and Las Vegas, playing bingo, cards and watching the Brewers and Packers.
Visitation will be held at Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, WI from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM Friday, July 8th.
Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM with burial to follow at Wanders Rest Cemetery.
